Fishing on Runyan Lake

Quick Links

*** Anglers and Boaters - Please protect Runyan Lake!  Click here to read recommended precautions from the DNR to help prevent disease and invasive species transfer into our lake. ***

Fishing on Runyan Lake is governed by State of Michigan fishing regulations.

Michigan Fishing License Requirements (see DNR page)

  • You must purchase a fishing license if you are 17 years of age or older to fish. If you are under 17, you may fish without a license, but you are required to observe all fishing rules and regulations. Any adult actively assisting a minor who does not have a license must have a fishing license. Please note, a license is required when targeting fish, amphibians, crustaceans and reptiles.

Michigan's annual fishing license is valid from March 1 of a given year through March 31 of the following year.

See the DNR website for more fishing information

What fish are in Runyan Lake?
Fish populations in Runyan Lake include Black Crappie, Bluegill/Sunfish, Largemouth, Smallmouth, and Rock Bass, Lake Herring, Longnose Gar, Northern Pike, Yellow Perch, Walleye, and of course bait fish.  You might also see Iowa and Johnny Darters, a Bowfin (Dogfish), or a Mudpuppy now and then.  Having trouble identifying a fish?  Think you saw or caught something else?  Try this fish identification guide.  Michigan has terrible fish identification resources, but this Wisconson guide is pretty good.
