Back to Sewer Page RLI Home Page Livingston Regional Sewer System O&M Rate Calculation Did you ever wonder how your quarterly sewer O&M rate is determined? Read on to gain some insight! First, one must understand how the system is managed. Genesee County treats our wastewater and charges a rate per 1000 gallons. Livingston County maintains our sewer system, costs which include infrastructure repairs, pumping station operation and maintenance, odor control chemicals, and other system management costs such as permits and inspections. Livingston County recovers these costs using a rate per 1000 gallons. Tyrone Township charges a billing fee and administration fee. A grinder pump maintenance fee is assessed to build a repair fund as a result of our conversion from STEP to grinder pumps. This fee should go away in the next few years as a result of a sufficient reserve being built up over time. Finally, a debt reduction fee is charged to current sewer users to pay down the excess bond debt resulting from only about 450 of the anticipated 1000 properties being hooked up to the system at this time. All of these individual fees are plugged into the calculator below. The formula assumes a wastewater creation rate of 210 gallons per day per household. We do not have individual meters on our homes so this rate is verified by taking the metered volume from Tyrone Township as it flows into the Genesee treatment plant and dividing it by the number of users. Any needed adjustment results in a modification to the calculated rate, which is reviewed by Tyrone Township annually.
