History:  The first turtle race occurred in 1940, making this year the 71st Turtle Race event!  The Turtle Race is a social activity of the Runyan Lake Point Property Owners Association (RLPPOA) and participation is restricted to RLPPOA Members and their immediate families and guests.  Many members of the RLI community come to watch the Turtle Race, which often generates large crowds.

Event Information:  Each year on the Sunday before Labor Day, the RLPPOA sponsors an event historically known as The Turtle Race. If the race must be postponed due to rain, the Turtle Race will occur on Labor Day. The location of The Turtle Race is the upper level of the Community Property also known as the Ballpark, specifically upon the basketball court.  Registration for the race begins at 9:30 AM. Heats of the race begin at 12:00 PM. The race is open to all Members of the RLPPOA and their guests.

Winner Responsibilities:  Please keep in mind winners of the Turtle Race become responsible for certain activities during the Turtle Race held the following year.

First Place: The RLPPOA member or the guest of a RLPPOA member who places first shall cause the RLPPOA member to be responsible for running the Turtle Race during the following year.

Second Place: The RLPPOA member or the guest of a RLPPOA member who places second shall cause the RLPPOA member to be responsible for providing food during the Turtle Race during the following year.

Third Place: The RLPPOA member or the guest of a RLPPOA member who places third shall cause the RLPPOA member to be responsible for children’s games following the Turtle Race during the following year.

Fourth Place: The RLPPOA member or the guest of a RLPPOA member who places fourth shall cause the RLPPOA member to be responsible for the Cake Contest during the following year.
